So many moments. Inevitable ones linked to Canelo Vs Jacobs for sure. In the auxiliary media section of Barclays Center in October 2017, I’m with a bow-tied evening suit wearing Daniel F. Gonzalez, Esq. in ready-for-trial mode; he describes my green Trap Boy, swagger tongue-shaped, USA flag jacket wearing and old-ass teenage way as having an “elegant writing style”.
At glance, you would never associate the Criminal Defense specialist for Elias & Gonzalez, LLC, to be a veritable Hip/Hop rolodex in the retro section of “Lit”.
I was so angry. I glanced down at an authentic, Jay-Z Yankee hat grabbing tattoo image on my arm in commemoration of “The Black Album”, while leaving Madison Square Garden and last “Fight Week” behind. Or so I thought. I listened to that album and let it hum; and without intention, wrote with dark intentions, following a PPV event that I’m ashamed to mention. Then I remembered an alternative from Prince and his own “Black Album“, a record he described as really “angry”, while stating an artist’s last work should never be remembered this way (He was having myriad problems with Warner Bros. and that was to be his last project, completed in 1987). Finally dropped on November 22, 1994, I was 23 when that came out and never listened to it, until 24 years later, or, “now”.
And whatta ya know. It balanced me.
There’s a lightness in the desert air with real star power flowing through the Vegas wind. Last week, in [Vol.I] of Canelo V Jacobs, this fight forayed into the realm of PPV and figures to stay there, especially if Cinco de Mayo figures from DAZN prove to be a Black Monday for a PPV platform being threatened with extinction. On this Tuesday, “Fight Week” for unified middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2, 35KOs) and IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (35-2, 29KOs) is so very much alive in Sin City, which started (for me, anyway) with the site of Canelo rocking a sic black n white silk pajama set that had me thinking of “Desiigner” lyrics.
I got broads in Atlanta
Twistin’ dope, lean, and the Fanta
Credit cards and the scammers
Hittin’ off licks in the bando
Black X6, Phantom
White X6 look like a panda
Goin’ out like I’m Montana
Hundred killas, hundred hammers
Dope AF.
Then, I used my DAZN subscription and copped the “40 Days” promo mentioned last week. Dope AF. Top Rank take notes and get off the bollocks why don’t cha FFS! A raucous fervor greeted this generation’s “Golden Boy” as you’d expect, while more than a modest one rained down on Jacobs; whose perilous, 19 month ladder climb over cancer has brought him to the precipice of his own promised land. Vegas fight fans are perhaps the most knowledgeable in the world and know when a good tussle is in front of them. This one figures to be great.

The things we find ourselves passionate about are almost never random… they are callings. Not unlike vintage Saturday morning cartoon desire of varying predilection. You’re colorblind if you don’t know that they’re in style; a contrast in substance the middleweight division hasn’t seen in awhile. A cool, urban, black Pink Panther repping Brooklyn “USA” in Jacobs– a most impressive diamond if you will, who sees the dimension of Eddy Reynoso as a most flawed Inspector Clouseau; opposite a smooth, Blue “Grouchy” Smurf from Mexico on this Cinco de Mayo, with a Papa in his corner in Chepo Reynoso, who rightfully sees Jacob’s trainer Andre Rozier as a most formidable Gargemel.
A diamond completely out of the rough at immeasurable value, we all know the plot will either unfold a heist or uphold the hype. But see… that’s the grey area. We don’t know. All the more reason why if this fight were shown on prime-time free TV circa 1980’s, you’d risk a broken hand trying to change the channel.
Assuming sound security on your laptop, phone or tablet, you can download DAZN for a free 30-day trial and watch iconic Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2, 35KOs) battle future legend Daniel Jacobs (35-2, 29KOs), “The Miracle Man”, in a bout worth at least the $10 your ass won’t have to pony up until after you watch unified British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua turn Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller replacement Andy Ruiz into the world’s biggest pop tart in Madison Square Garden on June 1, if you sign up shortly after reading this. In short, Canelo Vs Jacobs should be an instant classic.
And about those “diamonds”. Precious jewels will lace a very rare and prestigious Mayan WBC championship belt awarded to the winner in commemoration of Cinco de Mayo and the event.
It will represent eighteen centuries of Mayan culture and achievement, highlighting its remarkable hieroglyphic writing, art, architecture, numerical systems, astronomy, mathematics and appreciation of the eco system. See ya after the weigh-in. Up next, “Encore”.
